Q&A: Aromatherapy and Blocked Ears

Q: Can you recommend anything for blocked ears? I have tried lots of medical and 'alternative' therapies but nothing seems to help.

A: I would recommend that you see your doctor again. I'm assuming that your hearing is being affected - this can sometimes be an indication of more serious underlying health conditions eg nerve damage or high blood pressure so I would encourage you to talk to your GP again.

In the meantime you could try inhaling a blend of Rosemary (an alternative to Eucalyptus which can sometimes irritate and cause swelling in mucous membranes), Tea Tree (which may help combat any infection) and “natures steroid”, Chamomile. Put 1 drop of each in the bottom of a sherry glass with very hot water and inhale through the nose taking care to avoid the eyes. I would also suggest hopi ear candling as a treatment but it may be that you have already tried this?
